Week 1: 2017 52-Week Photo Project

My approach this year to a photography project is to set a theme or constraint for each week and then make images to match that. For my first week, I selected “Many Views of a Book” as my theme to guide my image making. My idea at this early stage of a new approach to a year-long project is to take any number of images during the week around the selected theme

Wandering the Streets: Kallmünz, Germany

Kallmünz is a quaint little town about a half hour or less north of Regensburg. My first hostess, Petra (my nephews’ cousin), insisted a stop there at the beginning of my trip when I was driving from Regensburg to Amberg. So I did, but I was not impressed, so I drove on. Well, on my return south at the end of my trip, I decided to take another look.

Five Days with the Olympus OM-D E-M5 II

The previously owned Olympus OM-D E-M5 II I bought arrived last Friday afternoon. I've had five full days plus a couple hours to check it out.  Conclusion? I am very happy I decided to put money into this camera body instead of a new lens or two!

Wandering the Streets: Bamberg, Germany

After spending the morning wandering the streets of Weimar, I took to the road to drive south to Bamberg. My nephew’s wife had recommended it as a picturesque and “typical” Bavarian city. The drive from Weimar through the Thuringian Forest was windy and slow, so I finally escaped that and go on the Autobahn to make up time.

Recording My Video Update Episodes - The Setup

I am getting back in the routine of recording episodes for the Video Updates series I began earlier this year. Through these recordings I want to document what I'm experiencing as I learn to work with making videos with my iPhone 7 Plus, my OM-D E-M1, and, soon, my E-M5 II, as well as other aspects of my obsession with photography and technology.

Why Did I Buy an Olympus OM-D E-M5 II Camera?

I bought a Panasonic GM-5 camera back in the spring because I wanted a small camera to use alongside my Olympus OM-D E-M1 that could use my pool of micro4/3 lenses. I love it! So much so that I used it exclusively and began forgetting the way I had my E-M1 set up! That made me think, "Maybe I don't need the E-M1. Maybe I need the E-M5 II instead."
