Five Days with the Olympus OM-D E-M5 II

Five Days with the Olympus OM-D E-M5 II

Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II with the Panasonic 12-32mm, f/3.5-5.6 lens.

The previously owned Olympus OM-D E-M5 II I bought arrived last Friday afternoon. I've had five full days plus a couple hours to check it out.  Conclusion? I am very happy I decided to put money into this camera body instead of a new lens or two! The package I bought came with all of original accessories except a strap, was in original box (ALWAYS save your original boxes!), came with the HLD-8G grip which adds some 'heft' to the body - and has a headphone jack for monitoring audio while recording video - as well as the HLD-6P battery grip. All in all a great deal for me! I attached the HLD-8G immediately and, though it makes the E-M5 II a bit larger, it's still smaller than my E-M1 and the camera feels better in my hand. If I really want to conserve space, I can see removing it, but for now it's staying on! I haven't even tried the additional battery grip yet and will probably only attach it when I can afford the extra weight and need the immediacy of a second battery.

This OM-D model is definitely smaller than my E-M1 as well as lighter and, especially with my smaller lenses such as the Olympus 45mm, the Olympus 9mm BCL, the Panasonic 20mm, Panasonic 35-100mm, f/4-5.6, and Panasonic 12-32mm, f/3.5-5.6, it is going to be fun to carry. I now have a wonderful array of sizes starting with my iPhone 7 Plus, then my tiny Panasonic GM-5, next the "new" E-M5 II, and, finally, my perfect E-M1! And even the last is way smaller than my old Canon 60D! Yes, it's a wonderful world we live in these days, photographically speaking!
