Wandering the Streets: Regensburg, Germany

Regensburg is a beautiful city in Bavaria. It is my sister-in-law’s favorite city and the home of one of her nieces, whom I first met when she was a baby many years ago. Though she is not, I think of Petra as one of my German nieces. It is also now the home of one of our son’s best friends. So, though I had been to the city several times in the past, it was the first on my list of cities to visit on this trip.

Holding Up Your Camera - Camera Support Systems I Use

Over the years I have tried a lot of ways to hold my camera stable. Only recently have I invested in sturdy tripods that cost more than I ever thought I'd pay but are are still inexpensive compared to what many photographers use. I opted, instead, for the lighter, less expensive alternatives. And, for as much as I used them, that was okay. I've tried monopods and gone through two or more of them. I've gotten and used various GorillaPod tripods, too. I still carry around with me a little tripod my brother-in-law gave me some thirty years ago. Add to these a variety of other things to hold my camera upright and I have quite a collection of tripod-like devices.

Learning comes in many different shapes and sizes. At the Out of Chicago Photography Conference it can be a traditional “sit in a classroom and take in new information” session, but it is also attending hands-on workshops, going on photowalks and putting into practice immediately what the photowalk leader suggests one tries, interacting with other attendees in workshops, presentations, and when just standing around having coffee or snacks.
